Monero

Monero is a crypto-currency project that incorporates privacy into its design. Members of the Monero community have reached out to us with requests to support Monero in Subgraph OS.

Subgraph address

We are happy to announce that we've made preliminary Debian packages for Monero and the Monero GUI wallet. Once finalized, these will go into our official repository.

Note that these are not yet binary reproducible - this is something we are working on. Therefore, they should only be considered for testing.

Testing the packages

You can download the packages here to test them:

$ wget https://support.subgraph.com/downloads/monero_0.11.0.0-1_amd64.deb
$ wget https://support.subgraph.com/downloads/monero-gui_0.11.1.0-1_amd64.deb

$ wget https://support.subgraph.com/downloads/monero-pkgs-sha256.txt
$ wget https://support.subgraph.com/downloads/monero-pkgs-sha256.txt.asc

Packages can be authenticated by verifying the signature of monero-pkgs-sha256.asc and ensuring the sha256 hashes of the debs correspond to what is in the file. This won't be required once the packages are in our repository.

Installing

$ sudo dpkg -i monero_0.11.0.0-1_amd64.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i monero-gui_0.11.1.0-1_amd64.deb

Manual step still required

A PaX mprotect exception will need to be set for monero-wallet-gui due to Qt5. To do this, edit the main paxrat configuration file /etc/paxrat/paxrat.conf and add the following entry to the list:

      "/usr/bin/monero-wallet-gui": {
        "flags": "m"
      }

Then run paxrat:

    $ sudo /sbin/paxrat -c /etc/paxrat/paxrat.conf

Running Monero

If you want to start the Monero GUI wallet:

$ monero-wallet-gui

Monerod is configured to run by default as a systemd service, with the blockchain written to /var/lib/monero.
